Should I Monetize My Intellectual Property? It’s Time to “INVEST”
Updated: Sep 6

I thought I wanted to make a lil’ video about this, but one, I’m not in the mood to do so…and two, well, I’m trying to think of something, but I can’t, so maybe I will do one…just not yet.
Welp, I ended up making a video.
Anywho, when it comes to making money off of our Divinely given creativity, passions, or talents, it can be difficult not to fall into the mentality of seeking out the quickest way to go “viral” or make a cute coin (a.k.a. money). We advertise ourselves or whatever it is that we’re doing (writing, music, teaching, public speaking, etc.) and may even include a fee like $273,374 per hour to talk (if you get it, you get it and if you don’t…well my humor is just different I guess…chile. I typed that like other people are actually reading this pahahahaha!) or maybe $777 for a program to “unlock your inner entrepreneurship and build a successful brand” (the spiritual community, as well as others, love to use numerology to “manifest“ but I’m here for it). Anywho, we basically have to fall victim to capitalism and the illusion of a free market because at the end of the day, money and the status quo still make the world go round (for now).
With so much information, misinformation, and everything else in between literally at our fingertips…sometimes, it’s overwhelming to think about. Plus, people like to steal content and all types of foul things these days WITHOUT giving credit where credit is due but that’s neither here nor there because yeah (sometimes peoples don’t know any better)…back to the topic at hand (I don’t want to get too judgy because there’s nothing wrong with having a muse or being inspired…I’ve made mistakes in life too).
Anywho, when it comes to monetization, it seems like literally everything is a business and it’s annoying…But I get it because working a 9-5 can feel like modern-day slavery without fair pay or work/life balance. Plus?! Having a career that doesn’t feel like a job is a vibe, honey! I continue to change my mind about monetizing my creativity because building a brand, ORGANICALLY…is…not…easy. Would I love to travel the world just to be my lil‘ cute awkward self to listen to music and maybe talk and relate to people? absolutely…but…well there is no “but”…actually, yes there is...I don’t know how, and I have yet to observe someone (in real life) who’s doing what I would aspire to do without falling into the trap of being corny or trying to hop on every trending topic or style. Plus, as I’ve stated in a previous post, I speak energy, honey…fluently, and I’m still working out the kinks when it comes to…(you know what, I’m not gonna finish that thought)…anywho…
Spirituality is now becoming a trend for some “celebrities” or “influencers” to promote and make money off of, like wtf?! These fake ”woke” individuals intrigue me sometimes, but it lets me know where the world is headed. Even though I’m not that spiritual…ANYMORE, but let me stop though because although I’ve always been one who loves things that are considered taboo, I‘ve had plenty of spiritual deaths and rebirths that pushed me to where I am today emotionally, physically, mentally, financially, etc. I almost put something about me being a Pisces, but I’m gonna leave that alone…I’ve always had this mentality where it’s like…okay…there’s 7+ billion people in the world, so it shouldn’t be that difficult to reach a few dozen, then a hundred, and so on?! But the reality of that scenario is a lot more difficult than it is just being a thought. It goes back to the post I made about us needing to prove ourselves: “You Alone Are Enough; You Have Nothing to Prove to Anybody.”
Nowadays, the term is “invest”…INVEST in your future, INVEST in your skills, INVEST in your business, INVEST in a masterclass to receive breadcrumbs about what to do next, but the reality of all these scenarios is just that we’re trying to get people to INVEST in us so we can pay our bills for the month or not work a 9-5 job. If nothing else, I’ve learned that money isn’t everything, and although having financial freedom is the goal, the way I get there still matters to me. I’m a firm believer that accepting money from certain entities or people can either be a blessing or, unconsciously, a quick beginning AND ending of “success,” depending on who we rub shoulders with or who we piss off. Either way, it’s weird to think that human beings have that much control over each other…but we do.
At the end of the day, what I do know is…I’ve learned plenty of life lessons to understand that being tested with the woes of life may or may not be the determining factor when it comes to whether we’re “successful” or not, but I can proudly say that I’m not taking any shortcuts. At one point, I felt like when it comes to creative content, it should just be released to the world, and if REAL people want to tap in, they will, but when I really think about it…hmm…I don’t know…sponsorships, affiliate marketing, and paying for promotion is the thing right now, and as I meditate on it, even now…we're already living in a vain world where looks or a certain stereotype = talent, instead of talent speaking for itself. Someone can easily have millions of followers on social media but, behind the scenes (in real life), take credit for someone else’s work. That’s probably why I’m also trying this social media thing over again without boosting or “investing” in promotion. However, I still don't mind investing in/paying for my artist pro subscription on SoundCloud because, well…it’s just SoundCloud. Will I attract spam accounts? Maybe, but technically, the internet isn’t real (I mean, it is as far as us using it as a tool, but it’s not the tangible reality we live in if it were to shut down).
Will I ever capitalize or monetize off of my creativity? (I believe the correct term is “intellectual property”)…Only “time” will tell, but in the meantime in between time, this internet stuff doesn’t pay bills or debts I may have accumulated on the way…so yeah. 9-5 it is.
