My 30 Day Water Fast Journey

Nov 2, 2024

When you find this, I hope it serves as inspiration that the mind is powerful and even if it’s not water fasting, when we set realistic goals and take things day by day, small steps can lead to significant progress over time.

*Please be advised, this is my own personal journey and if necessary, please seek medical professional advice before attempting any type of fast.

My journey of water fasting started around five years ago as a means to realign spiritually, emotionally, and physically; essentially dying to the flesh(spiritually). Once I was able to make it through 3 days, I started completing 7 day fasts every now and then over the next few years and even shared one of my 7 day fasting experiences on Youtube. If anyone is interested, I’ll include the videos below.

With that being said, I’ve decided to go on another journey and create a space for the beautiful loves that find me, to journey with me. Will my physical body want food at the end of this journey? Absolutely, but for me I enjoy the discipline, self-determination, and alignment with oneself that’s needed in order to complete a fast. I’ll be sharing updates in this post every 7 day’s and in the meantime in-between time, practicing yoga, strengthening my discernment, intuition, and clarity about present and future aspirations while continuing to live this journey we call life. I started November 1st, 2024 and will be ending my water fast on December 1st, 2024.

Updates:

November 8, 2024: The first week is complete and I'm proud to say that I made it through. Yay! As for how I'm feeling...to be honest, not bad but time is moving quite slowly. I've made it through a few 7 day water fasts so the real challenge is going to be making it through the entire 30 days. Plus, I feel like "mind over matter" is going to be what helps me make it through each 7 day interval. What I will say is...I briefly had a moment of wanting to dream about all the cravings I may want to indulge in(french fries, aloo curry, sushi, fresh fruit, herbal tea, ramen with eggs, popcorn, egusi, etc.) and how I wanted to cook some fresh potato soup and bake homemade bread(the cozy fall weather has me wanting to cook comfort food) from scratch but other than that, I don't see myself wanting to break my fast anytime soon. Self-discipline and wanting to finish what I started are at the forefront of the goals I'm getting ready to accomplish and this fast is going to be the segue into the next season of my life.

November 15, 2024: So I’ve completed week two and I would be lying if I said it was easy. Between Mother Nature’s monthly gift a.k.a. period and the emotional irritability that comes along with it…while also getting past wanting to indulge in my usual sweet & salty cravings, I’m proud of myself for making it through. Funny enough, something I’ve noticed about myself while fasting is that I love the smell of food even though I know I’m not going to eat it. For whatever reason, the aroma is satisfying enough and it was so funny when I went to get food with my mom; as a lover of french fries and all things potato, the aroma made me happy. Honestly, getting through the second week felt like when I finished my second year of pharmacy school. It wasn’t easy and you’re not finished with the program yet, but at the same time it feels like you've made it halfway through. All in all, the cravings have subsided and I found myself only wanting food out of boredom. These next two weeks are going to be interesting because it’s two of my family member’s birthday’s and my mom wants to go out to eat for her’s. Knowing me though, I won’t cave in even while going out to eat. 30 days is what I wanted to do and 30 days is what I intend to complete. (I would definitely recommend having a bottle of water at all times if you experience dry mouth during prolonged fasting).

November 22, 2024: To be honest, this was the toughest week by far and I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to give up once or twice. But when I think about the commitment I made to myself to complete 30 days, I decided to continue to push through. My sense of smell is heightened and more sensitive and I also seemed to get headaches every now and then. It definitely felt like a week of conserving energy because all my body wanted to do was rest. Plus, when I say my willpower is being put to the test?! sigh …it’s no joke. To have food readily available to cook in the kitchen or even order with the push of a button, I almost became frustrated with myself because at any moment I could just stop…but I know myself and I would be even more disappointed because I wouldn’t be stopping because I couldn’t do it, it would simply be because I chose not to…and that’s not a good enough reason. Anywho, I can’t wait to finally write my last update on December 1st and try to push through another week of water fasting.

November 30,2024: Okay, so boom! I decided to go ahead and post my lil’ update since I had to break my fast three days early. I didn’t factor in that I wasn’t intaking any supplements or electrolytes and how weak my body would become. The beginning of the fourth week felt okay and I was still able to get my errands done but I know my body and even a strong willed woman like me knows my limits. I also work from home, which is a blessing but when I felt myself about to vomit and it was becoming difficult to even walk to the other room to sit at my desk, the dehydration became a bit too much(yes…you can still be dehydrated if you only drink water…) and I’d rather not risk fainting for no reason. I ended up eating cassava with Himalayan salt and an orange and immediately felt better. Shout out to electrolytes! Since then, I’ve just been getting certain nutrients back into my body through fruit like oranges, apples, etc. and also had some soup.

To be honest, I’m really proud of myself and if I were to ever try another prolonged or 30 day water fast, lemon is going to be infused in the water. What I will say is…always listen to your body, take things slow when coming off the fast, and essentially, you are what you eat!

Oh…and Happy fasting to my fellow water fasters, you got this!

December 1st-3rd is when I’ll be making up those three days for my water fast. I like to complete what I start even if there’s a break in-between, I can’t help it sometimes lol.

Update:

December 4, 2024: I completed my water fast December 1st-3rd with no supplements, fruit, etc. It was pretty straightforward and easygoing, especially after attempting 30 days. All in all, I feel good! I look good! And it was the reset I needed. Eat to live, not live to eat. Personally, I’m gonna do both.

As stated above, here’s my 7 day water fast from June 2024:
